Job Description
Action Health Incorporated is seeking a passionate and dedicated Social Worker to join our dynamic team, focusing on community-based projects in Agbowa, Ikorodu. This pivotal role involves direct engagement with community members, youth, families, and local stakeholders to identify social needs, develop intervention strategies, and facilitate access to essential services. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of our community development initiatives, ensuring that programs are culturally sensitive, impactful, and aligned with our organizational mission.
Working within the NGO framework, this position demands a professional who is not only skilled in casework and group work but also adept at community mobilization, advocacy, and resource coordination. You will be responsible for conducting needs assessments, providing counseling and support, organizing workshops and awareness campaigns, and building strong relationships within the Agbowa community. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive social needs assessments for individuals, families, and groups within the Agbowa, Ikorodu community.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized care plans and community-based interventions.
- Provide one-on-one counseling, crisis intervention, and psychosocial support to vulnerable individuals and groups.
- Facilitate and organize community workshops, training sessions, and awareness campaigns on health, education, and social issues.
- Collaborate with local community leaders, religious groups, government agencies, and other NGOs to identify resources and build partnerships.
- Mobilize community members for active participation in project activities and decision-making processes.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, progress notes, and program documentation.
- Prepare regular reports on project activities, outcomes, and challenges.
- Advocate for the rights and needs of beneficiaries, promoting their empowerment and self-reliance.
- Refer clients to appropriate external services (e.g., healthcare, legal aid, educational support) and follow up on their progress.
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and professional development activities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in social work, community development, or an NGO setting.
- Proven experience in direct casework, counseling, and group facilitation.
- Strong understanding of community development principles and participatory approaches.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and active listening skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and cultural backgrounds.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Fluency in English and Yoruba (or another prominent local language in Lagos) is highly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Social Work or Public Health.
- Experience with project management and M&E (Monitoring & Evaluation) frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience in youth empowerment or reproductive health programs.
- Knowledge of local community structures and dynamics in Ikorodu, Lagos.
