In this vital role, you will be responsible for conducting thorough psychological assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions including individual, group, and family counseling. You will work within a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and other allied health professionals, collaborating closely to ensure integrated and patient-centered care. Your expertise will contribute to crisis intervention, support for patients with chronic medical conditions experiencing psychological distress, and the promotion of mental health literacy within the hospital and wider community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and psychoeducational testing for diverse patient populations.
  • Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans utilizing a range of therapeutic modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT, psychodynamic therapy).
  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling and therapy for patients experiencing various mental health conditions, emotional distress, and behavioral issues.
  • Participate in crisis intervention and provide immediate support to patients in acute psychological distress.
  • Collaborate effectively with psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, and other medical staff as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date patient records and documentation in accordance with hospital policies and professional standards.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of mental health education programs for patients, families, and staff.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and stay abreast of the latest research and best practices in psychology and mental health.
  • Offer consultation to medical and allied health teams regarding psychological factors influencing patient care and recovery.
  • Participate in clinical rounds, case conferences, and departmental meetings to discuss patient progress and treatment strategies.

Required Skills

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Current registration/licensure as a Psychologist in Jamaica (or eligibility for registration).
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-licensure clinical experience in mental health settings.
  • Demonstrated expertise in psychological assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and empathy skills for effective patient interaction and team collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in maintaining confidential patient records and adhering to ethical guidelines.
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity in working with diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within a hospital or public healthcare system.
  • Specialization or advanced training in specific areas such as trauma, child and adolescent psychology, addiction, or neuropsychology.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and management.
  • Familiarity with public health mental health initiatives in Jamaica.
  • Proficiency in relevant psychological assessment software or electronic health record (EHR) systems.
