Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Electrical Fitter to join our dynamic team based in Rumuokuta Junction, Port Harcourt. This pivotal role involves the precise assembly, wiring, and testing of electrical control panels and various circuit components, ensuring all work adheres strictly to engineering schematics, industry standards, and project specifications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of fundamental electrical principles, exceptional manual dexterity, and a keen eye for detail required for intricate wiring tasks. Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to determine component layout and assembly procedures.
- Perform precise point-to-point wiring of control panels, motor control centers (MCCs), distribution boards, and other electrical enclosures.
- Install electrical components such as circuit breakers, relays, contactors, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), terminals, transformers, and switches.
- Cut, strip, crimp, and terminate wires and cables accurately using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Mount electrical panels, enclosures, and equipment using hand and power tools, ensuring correct alignment and secure fastening.
- Conduct continuity checks, insulation resistance tests, and functional tests on assembled panels and circuits to ensure proper operation and troubleshoot any defects or malfunctions.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, strictly adhering to all company safety policies, procedures, and industrial regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with electrical engineers, project managers, and other team members to resolve technical issues and optimize design or assembly processes.
- Document work performed, including modifications, test results, and any deviations from original specifications.
- Assist in the regular maintenance, calibration, and proper use of fitting tools and equipment.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of proven hands-on experience as an Electrical Fitter or similar role, specifically with control panel wiring and circuit assembly.
- Strong ability to accurately read and interpret complex electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Proficiency in using a wide range of hand and power tools common to electrical fitting and assembly.
- Excellent knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations (e.g., IEC, IEEE, Nigerian Electrical Standards, local regulations).
- Solid understanding of various electrical components, their functions, and best practices for wiring techniques.
- Exceptional manual dexterity, keen eye for detail, and precision in execution.
- Proven problem-solving skills and ability to efficiently troubleshoot electrical issues.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- OND/HND or Trade Test I, II, III certification in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Instrumentation, Electrical Installation, or a closely related field.
- Direct experience with PLC wiring and industrial automation systems.
- Certification in industrial electrical safety (e.g., OSHA, NEBOSH or equivalent).
- Familiarity with various types of conduit bending and installation techniques.
- Prior experience in oil & gas or heavy industrial environments.
