Job Description

Community Life Project (CLP) is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Community Health Worker to join our dynamic team in Ogudu, Lagos. This vital role will involve direct engagement with community members, serving as a crucial link between health services and the local population, particularly within the framework of our ongoing NGO programs. As a Community Health Worker, you will be instrumental in promoting health education, facilitating access to care, and empowering individuals and families to adopt healthier lifestyles. You will work closely with other healthcare professionals, community leaders, and volunteers to identify health needs, conduct outreach activities, and support the implementation of various public health initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular community outreach activities to identify individuals and families requiring health support and information.
- Provide basic health education on prevalent health issues such as hygiene, nutrition, maternal and child health, family planning, and disease prevention (e.g., malaria, HIV/AIDS) using culturally appropriate and accessible methods.
- Facilitate timely referrals of community members to relevant health services, clinics, hospitals, and social support programs.
- Support the planning, organization, and implementation of community health campaigns, awareness programs, workshops, and health screenings.
- Accurately collect and record data related to health interventions, community demographics, program indicators, and client interactions.
- Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with community members, local leaders, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders.
- Act as an advocate for community health needs and priorities to ensure improved access to quality services and resources.
- Distribute health information materials, educational pamphlets, and other resources to promote health literacy.
- Participate actively in regular team meetings, training sessions, and supervisory discussions to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Assist in monitoring and evaluating program activities to assess effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and ensure desired impact.
Required Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and respectfully with diverse community groups.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach towards community members.
- Basic understanding of public health principles and common health issues affecting Nigerian communities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good organizational and time management skills to manage fieldwork and administrative tasks efficiently.
- Proficiency in local languages relevant to Ogudu (e.g., Yoruba) is a significant advantage.
- Basic data collection and accurate record-keeping abilities.
- Physical ability to walk and navigate community environments for extensive outreach activities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in community outreach, volunteer work, or health education, preferably within an NGO or community-based organization setting.
- Certification or formal training in Community Health Work, Public Health, Social Work, or a related field.
- Familiarity with the socio-cultural context, health challenges, and existing health infrastructure specific to Ogudu, Lagos.
- Experience with basic computer applications for data entry and reporting (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel).
