Key Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
  • Provide medication reminders and assist with self-administration of medication.
  • Prepare nutritious meals according to dietary restrictions and preferences.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties such as laundry, tidying living areas, and bed making.
  • Provide companionship, engage clients in stimulating activities, and active listening.
  • Assist with safe mobility, transfers, and exercises as directed by healthcare professionals.
  • Accompany clients to appointments (medical, social) and run essential errands.
  • Monitor and report changes in client's health, behavior, or well-being to supervisory staff.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for clients.
  • Document care provided and client observations accurately and timely.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a caregiver or in a similar role (at least 12 months)
  • Exceptional patience, empathy, and compassion
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to follow care plans and instructions diligently
  • Reliable, punctual, and responsible
  • Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency procedures
  • Ability to perform light physical tasks and assist with client mobility
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation (preferred, but not always mandatory depending on client needs)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in caregiving (e.g., CNA, HHA, or equivalent)
  • Experience working with clients with specific conditions (e.g., dementia, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's)
  • Familiarity with Jamaican cultural practices and dietary preferences
  • Fluency in multiple languages (e.g., Jamaican Patois, Spanish) is a plus
  • Current CPR certification
