Key Responsibilities

  • Perform various welding tasks (MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Cored Arc Welding) on a range of materials, including steel and aluminum, ensuring structural integrity and aesthetic quality according to Nissan's global standards.
  • Read and accurately interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and welding symbols to determine appropriate welding techniques, material specifications, and sequence of operations.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of finished welds for defects, proper penetration, and adherence to quality standards using visual inspection and basic non-destructive testing (NDT) methods; implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Operate and meticulously maintain various welding equipment, including robotic welders, grinders, cutting tools, and other machinery, ensuring optimal performance, calibration, and longevity.
  • Strictly adhere to all company and industry safety protocols, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times, and actively contributing to a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to troubleshoot welding-related issues, optimize manufacturing processes, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Actively participate in the Work Abroad Program, including potential temporary relocation to international Nissan facilities or partner sites for project-based assignments, cultural exchange, and advanced technical training.
  • Provide expert technical support, mentorship, and guidance to junior technicians or team members, fostering skill development and knowledge transfer.
  • Accurately document all work performed, including materials used, equipment settings, inspection results, and any issues encountered, for quality assurance, traceability, and record-keeping purposes.

Required Skills

  • Proven proficiency in MIG, TIG, and Stick welding processes on diverse materials, including steel and aluminum.
  • Exceptional ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and all standard welding symbols.
  • Strong understanding of welding metallurgy, material properties, and their behavior under different welding conditions.
  • Demonstrated unwavering commitment to safety procedures, quality control, and best practices in a manufacturing setting.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, precision, and acute attention to detail to produce high-quality, defect-free welds.
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and collaboratively as an integral part of a cross-functional team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, and the capacity to adapt to new challenges and technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS Certified Welder (CW) certification or equivalent professional welding credentials.
  • Associate’s degree or successful completion of a vocational training program in Welding Technology or a closely related engineering field.
  • Previous experience operating and programming robotic welding systems or other automated welding processes.
  • Prior work experience within the automotive manufacturing industry, particularly with vehicle body or chassis components.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and 5S workplace organization.
  • Multilingual abilities (e.g., Japanese, Spanish, French) are highly advantageous and preferred for participation in the Work Abroad Program.
