Key Responsibilities
- Execute various welding processes, including but not limited to MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), and Flux-cored (FCAW) welding, on diverse materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols to determine appropriate welding techniques and ensure accurate fabrication.
- Cut, grind, and prepare metal components for welding, ensuring precise fit-up and alignment.
- Operate and maintain welding equipment, tools, and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform quality checks on welded joints, identifying and correcting imperfections to meet industry and company standards.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, fabricators, and other team members to ensure project deadlines and specifications are met.
- Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on welding equipment to ensure operational readiness.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced welders, fostering a culture of continuous learning and skill development.
- Document work performed, materials used, and any issues encountered during fabrication.
Required Skills
- Minimum 5 years of verifiable experience as a Welder in a fabrication shop or heavy construction environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in multiple welding processes (MIG, TIG, SMAW, FCAW).
- Expertise in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding specifications.
- Strong understanding of metal properties and metallurgy.
- Excellent manual dexterity, precision, and attention to detail.
- Proven commitment to safety procedures and practices in a workshop setting.
- Ability to operate cutting tools, grinders, and other fabrication equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot welding issues.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform tasks requiring lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant professional welding certifications (e.g., AWS, API, or equivalent local certifications).
- Vocational training or diploma in Welding Technology or a related field.
- Experience with specialized welding equipment or automated welding systems.
- Ability to perform advanced layout and fitting tasks.
