Boyd Moving & Storage is actively seeking a dedicated and energetic Warehouse Crate Packer to join our operations in Ottawa. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately and efficiently pack a variety of items, including furniture, electronics, and fragile goods, into crates, boxes, and other shipping containers.
- Select appropriate packing materials (e.g., bubble wrap, foam, blankets, custom crating wood) and techniques to ensure maximum protection during transit.
- Measure and cut wood or other materials to construct custom crates for oversized or high-value items when required.
- Label all packed items and containers clearly and accurately, adhering to company standards and client specifications.
- Inspect items for existing damage before packing and report any discrepancies or concerns to a supervisor.
- Safely load and unload items onto pallets, trucks, or into storage, utilizing proper lifting techniques and material handling equipment when necessary.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including daily cleanup of the packing area and proper disposal of waste materials.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a secure workplace.
- Collaborate effectively with other warehouse staff, movers, and supervisors to optimize workflow and meet daily production targets.
- Assist with inventory counts and organization as needed.
Required Skills
- Physical stamina and ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) regularly throughout a shift.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in packing, labeling, and documentation.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.
- Basic literacy skills (reading labels, understanding packing lists).
- Strong commitment to safety procedures and a safe working environment.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (6+ months) in a warehouse, packing, or moving-related role.
- Familiarity with various packing materials and techniques.
- Experience operating material handling equipment such as pallet jacks or hand trucks.
- Knowledge of safe lifting and rigging practices.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
