Key Responsibilities

  • Greet customers and answer phone calls in a courteous and professional manner, directing inquiries as appropriate.
  • Assist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians with non-clerical duties, including maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Process prescriptions for billing and data entry under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage inventory, including stocking shelves, verifying incoming shipments, and organizing supplies efficiently.
  • Operate point-of-sale systems, handle cash transactions, and provide accurate change with a friendly approach.
  • Resolve customer concerns efficiently and compassionately, escalating complex issues to the pharmacist when necessary.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations and company privacy policies.
  • Assist with medication preparation tasks, such as counting pills and labeling bottles, under direct pharmacist supervision, where permitted by state regulations.
  • Support pharmacy workflow by ensuring all areas are tidy, well-stocked, and supplies are readily available for immediate use.
  • Perform other administrative duties as assigned to support the overall efficiency of the pharmacy.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks, especially when handling sensitive information.
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn new software systems quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, prioritizing tasks as needed.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs consistently.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a retail, customer service, or healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of basic pharmacy terminology and common medications.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy operations and workflow processes.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification or enrollment in a pharmacy technician program is a plus, though not required for this assistant role.
