Job Description
Are you a compassionate and dedicated Veterinary Doctor seeking to make a significant impact on animal health and welfare within a vibrant community? Alpha Veterinary Clinic, a trusted name in animal care across Rivers State, is expanding its reach and establishing a new livestock and companion animal clinic in Onne, Port Harcourt. We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Veterinary Doctor to lead our new facility, providing comprehensive medical, surgical, and preventative care to a diverse range of animals, from cherished household pets to vital livestock. This pivotal role offers a unique opportunity to shape the health landscape of animals in the Onne region.
As our Veterinary Doctor, you will be at the forefront of diagnosing illnesses, implementing effective treatment plans, performing surgical procedures ranging from routine spays/neuters to emergency interventions, and advising animal owners on optimal husbandry and preventative health strategies including vaccination protocols and parasite control. You will manage daily clinic operations, including patient consultations, emergency response, maintaining accurate and detailed medical records, and collaborating with a supportive team to ensure seamless service delivery. Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and treat a wide range of animal diseases and injuries in both companion animals and livestock.
- Perform various surgical procedures, including routine spays/neuters and emergency operations.
- Administer vaccinations, perform deworming, and implement parasite control programs.
- Provide expert advice to animal owners on nutrition, breeding, hygiene, and preventative care.
- Conduct thorough physical examinations and diagnostic tests (e.g., blood work, urinalysis, imaging).
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records for all patients.
- Respond to veterinary emergencies during clinic hours and as part of an on-call rotation.
- Educate clients on animal health and welfare, fostering responsible pet and livestock ownership.
- Collaborate effectively with clinic staff and external partners.
- Oversee the daily operations of the clinic, ensuring high standards of care and hygiene.
Required Skills
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited institution.
- Current and valid license to practice veterinary medicine in Nigeria.
- Proven clinical experience in diagnosing and treating a variety of animal species.
- Proficiency in performing standard surgical procedures.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with empathy for animals and their owners.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in a specialized veterinary field (e.g., small animal medicine, large animal medicine, surgery).

- Fluency in local languages (e.g., Ikwerre, Kalabari) is a plus.
