Key Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists in dispensing prescription medications accurately and efficiently, ensuring proper labeling and packaging.
- Manage and maintain pharmaceutical inventory, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating medications.
- Verify prescription information for accuracy, liaising with prescribers and patients to resolve discrepancies.
- Process prescription refills and new prescriptions in accordance with established procedures and regulatory guidelines.
- Provide excellent customer service, addressing patient inquiries, explaining medication instructions, and managing patient expectations.
- Maintain patient records and confidentiality in compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR).
- Prepare and compound medications, including sterile and non-sterile products, as required, under pharmacist supervision.
- Operate and maintain pharmacy automation systems and other equipment.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, company policies, and professional standards.
- Participate in continuous professional development and training initiatives to stay updated with best practices and regulatory changes, contributing to a culture of continuous learning and excellence.
Required Skills
- NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent accredited qualification.
- Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) in the UK.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital, retail, or clinical setting.
- Proficiency in pharmaceutical calculations and medication dosage preparation.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in dispensing and record-keeping.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-centric approach.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Competency in using pharmacy management software systems and electronic health records (EHR).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specialist medication management systems or specific pharmacy automation.
- Additional certifications in specific areas such as aseptic dispensing or chemotherapy preparation.
- Knowledge of UnitedHealth Group's service delivery models or Optum's broader healthcare solutions.
