Key Responsibilities
- Process and submit medical claims to insurance companies and other payers accurately and in a timely manner.
- Review and verify patient insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits.
- Resolve billing discrepancies and denied claims by liaising with insurance providers, patients, and internal departments.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of healthcare billing regulations, compliance standards, and payer-specific guidelines.
- Prepare and reconcile daily, weekly, and monthly billing reports.
- Handle patient inquiries regarding billing statements and payment arrangements with professionalism and empathy.
- Assist with accounts receivable follow-up and collections efforts.
- Collaborate with clinical staff and administrative teams to gather necessary documentation for billing.
- Ensure all billing operations adhere to company policies and industry best practices.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of billing processes and systems.
Required Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience in medical billing or a related financial role.
- Proficiency in healthcare billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proven problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to issue resolution.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or a related field.
- Certification in Medical Billing and Coding (e.g., CPC, CCS-P, CPB).
- Experience with Optum/UnitedHealth Group-specific billing systems or similar large-scale healthcare platforms.
- Familiarity with UK National Health Service (NHS) billing procedures and private healthcare insurance models.
