Job Description

Unilever is seeking a dedicated and meticulous Quality Control Technician to join our dynamic team in Leicester, England. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring that all products manufactured and distributed meet Unilever’s rigorous quality standards and regulatory requirements. As a Quality Control Technician, you will play an instrumental part in maintaining product integrity and consumer trust. You will be actively involved in the testing and inspection of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished goods, using a variety of analytical techniques and laboratory equipment. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine quality control tests on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products using established methodologies and laboratory equipment.
  • Accurately record and document all test results, observations, and data in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and company procedures.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure adherence to quality specifications and identify any deviations or non-conformances.
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring all instruments are functioning correctly and providing accurate results.
  • Investigate and report product quality issues, collaborating with production and R&D teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist in the development and validation of new testing methods and procedures as required.
  • Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations within the laboratory and production areas.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality, efficiency, and safety.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory workspace.
  • Provide support for internal and external quality audits.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a quality control or laboratory technician role, preferably within the FMCG or manufacturing sector.
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, HACCP, GMP).
  • Proficiency in using various laboratory testing equipment and analytical techniques.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong observational skills.
  • Ability to accurately record data and maintain detailed documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective teamwork and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology, or a related scientific field.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and quality tools.
  • Experience with sensory evaluation techniques.
  • Familiarity with SAP or other enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems for quality data management.
  • Relevant industry certifications.
