Key Responsibilities

  • Guide students through Kumon worksheets in Mathematics or Reading, ensuring proper understanding and adherence to the Kumon Method.
  • Observe and assess student progress, providing constructive feedback to the Lead Instructor.
  • Foster a positive, encouraging, and focused learning environment conducive to self-learning.
  • Motivate and inspire students to develop strong self-learning habits, discipline, and confidence.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and the Kumon team regarding student progress and needs.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and achievements.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities related to the Kumon Method.
  • Adhere strictly to Kumon's safety, operational, and instructional policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Strong foundational knowledge in Mathematics (Arithmetic, Algebra) or Reading (Phonics, Vocabulary, Comprehension).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children of all ages and abilities.
  • Ability to motivate, encourage, and build rapport with young learners.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Fluency in Portuguese (essential for effective communication in Mozambique).
  • Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, or working with children in any capacity (volunteer, informal, or formal).
  • Fluency in English (beneficial for some learning materials or international students).
  • Familiarity with the Kumon Method or a similar individualized learning approach.
  • Availability during peak after-school hours, evenings, and weekends.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
