Wincanton is seeking dedicated Truck Loaders to join our bustling logistics hub in Chelmsley Wood, Birmingham. This is a crucial, hands-on role where your efficiency and attention to detail will directly contribute to our operational success and customer satisfaction. You will be responsible for accurately loading and unloading a variety of goods onto and from lorries, meticulously checking for damages, and ensuring all items are correctly sorted and securely prepared for transport. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately load and unload various types of goods from lorries, containers, and vans using appropriate manual handling techniques and equipment (e.g., pump trucks, pallet trucks).
- Verify the quantity, quality, and condition of incoming and outgoing goods against manifests or delivery notes, reporting any discrepancies or damages immediately.
- Organise and sort goods within the warehouse efficiently, ensuring clear aisles, optimal space utilisation, and adherence to safe stacking practices.
- Prepare shipments for dispatch, including wrapping, strapping, labelling, and securing loads to prevent damage during transit.
- Operate warehouse equipment safely and efficiently, including manual handling equipment, and potentially forklift trucks if certified (training may be provided for suitable candidates).
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment at all times, strictly adhering to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and drivers to ensure smooth workflow, timely processing of shipments, and a harmonious workplace.
- Assist with general warehouse duties as required, contributing to the overall productivity and efficiency of the logistics hub.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge within the logistics and supply chain sector.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, carrying, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in checking goods and documentation.
- Excellent time management and organisational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- A strong commitment to health and safety regulations and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Basic understanding of warehouse operations and logistics processes.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (6+ months) in a warehouse, logistics, or similar loading/unloading role.
- Experience operating manual handling equipment such as pump trucks or electric pallet trucks.
- Valid counterbalance or reach forklift licence (preferred but not essential, training can be provided for motivated individuals).
- Knowledge of supply chain operations and goods inward/outward processes.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems (WMS) or inventory tracking.
