Job Description
Are you an experienced, reliable, and safety-conscious Truck Driver with a passion for precision and timely deliveries? GraceKennedy Limited is seeking a dedicated Truck Driver to join our dynamic logistics and transport team based in Morant Bay, Saint Thomas. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods from our distribution centers to various retail outlets, warehouses, and other designated locations across Saint Thomas and surrounding parishes. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate heavy-duty trucks (e.g., 20-ton, articulated trucks) to transport goods as per delivery schedules and routes.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring all mechanical and safety systems are in good working order and reporting any defects or malfunctions immediately.
- Accurately load and unload cargo, ensuring proper securing, handling, and weight distribution to prevent damage during transit.
- Adhere strictly to all road safety regulations, traffic laws, and company safety policies and procedures, prioritizing personal and public safety.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery records, fuel consumption reports, and other documentation required by company and regulatory standards.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with dispatch, warehouse staff, and customers regarding delivery status, potential delays, and any issues encountered on the road.
- Perform basic maintenance tasks on vehicles as needed (e.g., checking fluid levels, tire pressure) and ensure the vehicle is kept clean and tidy.
- Represent GraceKennedy Limited professionally at all times, demonstrating excellent customer service and a positive attitude during all interactions and deliveries.
- Assist with route planning and optimization where necessary to enhance efficiency and reduce delivery times.
Required Skills
- Valid General Driver's License (e.g., Class 3/4 or equivalent for heavy-duty vehicles in Jamaica).
- Clean driving record with no major traffic violations or accidents in the past five years.
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Truck Driver, specifically with large commercial vehicles.
- Excellent knowledge of Jamaican traffic laws and road safety regulations.
- Strong geographical knowledge of Saint Thomas and surrounding parishes.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, pushing, and pulling, and withstand long hours of driving.
- Basic mechanical knowledge to identify and troubleshoot minor vehicle issues.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interaction with team members and clients.
- High degree of reliability and punctuality.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent qualification.
- Certification in defensive driving or advanced driving techniques.
- Experience with temperature-controlled transportation for perishable goods.
- Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and GPS navigation systems.
- Prior experience working in a fast-paced logistics or distribution environment for a major company.
