Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Transport Officer with a strong background in fleet management to join our team in Suleja. This critical role involves overseeing the day-to-day operations of our vehicle fleet, ensuring optimal performance, cost-efficiency, and compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing a diverse fleet of vehicles, coordinating drivers, implementing effective maintenance schedules, and optimizing routing to support our logistics operations effectively. You will play a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity and availability of our transport assets, directly contributing to our service delivery excellence and customer satisfaction.
Key aspects of this role include meticulous record-keeping, performance monitoring, and proactive problem-solving to mitigate any disruptions to transport schedules. You will be instrumental in developing and enforcing fleet policies, conducting regular inspections, and ensuring all drivers are adequately trained and adhere to company policies and road safety regulations. Furthermore, the Transport Officer will analyze transport data, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to reduce operational costs and enhance fuel efficiency. This position requires a proactive individual with excellent organizational skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the daily operations of the company's vehicle fleet.
- Develop, implement, and monitor vehicle maintenance schedules and ensure timely servicing and repairs.
- Coordinate and supervise drivers, including scheduling, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
- Optimize transport routes and schedules to ensure efficient and timely delivery of goods.
- Ensure strict compliance with all local and national transport regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Monitor fuel consumption, vehicle mileage, and other operational costs, implementing strategies for cost reduction.
- Conduct regular vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness and adherence to safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, repairs, fuel logs, and driver activities.
- Investigate and report on vehicle accidents, incidents, and breakdowns, implementing corrective measures.
- Manage vehicle registration, licensing, and insurance renewals.
- Train and induct new drivers on company procedures, safety regulations, and vehicle operation.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on fleet performance, expenditure, and efficiency for management review.
Required Skills
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or HND in Logistics, Transport Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) in fleet management, logistics, or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance, repair processes, and fleet operations.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in using fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
- Valid Nigerian driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Fleet Management (e.g., CILT).
- Knowledge of local geography and road networks in Suleja, Abuja, and surrounding areas.
- Experience with GPS tracking systems and telematics.
- Ability to conduct basic vehicle diagnostics and troubleshooting.
