Job Description

Maersk in Boma is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Translator to join our dynamic team. This critical role involves translating a wide array of documents and communications between English and French, ensuring accuracy, cultural appropriateness, and timely delivery. Key Responsibilities

  • Translate a variety of texts and communications, including operational manuals, shipping documents, contracts, reports, emails, and marketing materials from English to French and French to English.
  • Ensure translations are accurate, linguistically fluent, culturally appropriate, and maintain the original meaning, tone, and context.
  • Review and proofread translated materials for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style errors.
  • Maintain consistency of terminology across all translated documents, utilizing translation memory tools and glossaries.
  • Collaborate with various departments (e.g., Operations, Sales, Legal, HR) to understand specific translation needs and technical terminologies.
  • Provide simultaneous or consecutive interpretation during meetings, client visits, or internal discussions as required.
  • Manage translation projects, adhering to deadlines and prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Research technical and industry-specific terminology to ensure accuracy in translations.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of translation glossaries and style guides specific to Maersk's operations.

Required Skills

  • Native or near-native fluency in both English and French, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven experience as a professional translator, demonstrating a strong portfolio of translated works.
  • Excellent understanding of linguistic nuances, cultural contexts, and idiomatic expressions in both languages.
  • Proficiency in using CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tools (e.g., Trados, MemoQ) and translation memory software.
  • Strong research skills to ensure accurate technical and industry-specific terminology.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, error-free translations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Translation, Linguistics, Modern Languages, or a related field.
  • Certification from a recognized translation body (e.g., ATA, ITI).
  • Prior experience in the logistics, shipping, supply chain, or maritime industry.
  • Familiarity with local business practices and regulations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
  • Experience with content management systems or similar platforms.
