Job Description
Heritage Bank Plc is seeking a highly skilled and meticulously detailed Translator to join our dynamic team located in the vibrant Osongama Estate area of Uyo. This critical role involves ensuring accurate and culturally appropriate translation of a wide array of documents, communications, and digital content. As a Translator, you will play a pivotal role in facilitating seamless multilingual communication for our operations, particularly in document conversion and providing essential support across various language requirements. You will be responsible for translating financial reports, legal documents, marketing materials, and internal communications from English into target languages, and vice versa, while meticulously maintaining the original meaning, tone, and context. This position demands exceptional linguistic proficiency, a keen eye for detail, and a deep understanding of cultural nuances and industry-specific terminology. You will work closely with different departments, including Legal, Marketing, and Operations, to support our diverse client base and foster strong international partnerships. The ideal candidate will be proficient in utilizing advanced translation software and tools, possess strong research skills, and be adept at managing multiple projects concurrently while adhering to strict deadlines and uncompromising quality standards. Key Responsibilities
- Accurately translate a variety of documents including financial statements, legal contracts, marketing collateral, operational manuals, and digital content from English to target languages (e.g., French, Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa) and vice versa.
- Perform thorough proofreading, editing, and quality assurance checks on all translated materials to ensure linguistic accuracy, grammatical correctness, cultural appropriateness, and strict adherence to company-specific terminology and style guides.
- Manage comprehensive document conversion processes, ensuring integrity, consistency, and optimal formatting across various file types (e.g., PDF to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, web content).
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams across Legal, Marketing, IT, and Operations departments to understand project requirements, clarify content, and ensure the timely delivery of high-quality, fit-for-purpose translations.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality and security of all translated documents and sensitive corporate information.
- Conduct in-depth linguistic research and actively contribute to building and maintaining comprehensive glossaries, terminology databases, and translation memories to ensure consistency, efficiency, and enhance future translation efforts.
- Proficiently utilize Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, translation memory software, and other relevant technologies to enhance productivity, maintain quality, and streamline workflows.
- Provide real-time multilingual support for internal communications, external client engagements, and high-stakes meetings as required, ensuring clear and effective communication.
Required Skills
- Native-level proficiency in English and at least two other languages relevant to the Nigerian context (e.g., French, Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa), both written and spoken.
- Minimum of 3 years of proven professional translation experience, with a strong portfolio, particularly in financial, legal, or corporate sectors.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in all working languages, demonstrating clarity, precision, and nuance.
- Proficiency in using leading CAT tools (e.g., SDL Trados Studio, MemoQ, Wordfast) and translation memory software.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and an unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality, error-free work.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, and collaborate effectively as part of a diverse team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Exceptional time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Translation, Linguistics, Modern Languages, Communication, or a closely related field.
- Professional certification in translation from a recognized body (e.g., ATA, ITI, or local equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience with desktop publishing (DTP) software for document formatting and layout after translation.
- In-depth familiarity with financial terminology, banking industry standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Additional language proficiencies beyond the minimum requirement.
- Experience with localization processes for software or web content.
