Job Description

Dexter Construction, a leader in heavy civil construction across Atlantic Canada, is seeking a skilled and dedicated Tipper Driver to join our dynamic team on various construction sites in New Brunswick, Canada. This pivotal role involves the safe and efficient transportation of essential construction materials, including gravel, sand, asphalt, and other aggregates, to and from our active project sites. As a Tipper Driver, you will be at the forefront of our operations, ensuring that our projects maintain momentum through timely and accurate material delivery.

You will be responsible for the meticulous operation of heavy-duty tipper trucks, often navigating challenging terrain and busy construction environments. Beyond just driving, your duties will encompass conducting thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle roadworthiness, identifying and reporting any maintenance issues, and strictly adhering to all transportation regulations, company safety protocols, and provincial highway laws. The ability to load and unload materials safely, manage weight distribution, and operate various truck attachments (such as tarps) will be crucial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently operate heavy-duty tipper trucks to transport various construction materials to and from designated sites.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, ensuring all components are in good working order and reporting any defects or malfunctions.
  • Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, company safety policies, and site-specific safety procedures.
  • Coordinate with dispatch, site supervisors, and other team members to ensure timely and accurate material deliveries.
  • Load and unload materials in a safe and controlled manner, using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate logs of vehicle operation, mileage, and materials transported.
  • Keep vehicle clean and in good operational condition, performing minor maintenance tasks as required.
  • Navigate construction sites and public roads safely, often in challenging weather or terrain conditions.
  • Ensure proper weight distribution and securement of loads.
  • Represent Dexter Construction professionally at all times while on the job.

Required Skills

  • Valid Class 1 (or equivalent Class A) driver's license with an air brake endorsement.
  • Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience operating tipper trucks or similar heavy commercial vehicles.
  • Clean driving record (Driver's Abstract required).
  • Proven understanding and adherence to all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including climbing, lifting, and prolonged sitting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends, and adapt to changing project demands.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience operating other heavy equipment (e.g., excavators, loaders).
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of local New Brunswick road networks and construction sites.
