Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Full-Time Security Officer to join our team in the Historic District of Goshen. As a Tesco Security Officer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of our customers, colleagues, and premises. This immediate hiring opportunity calls for an individual with a strong sense of responsibility, excellent observational skills, and the ability to act calmly and decisively in various situations. You will be the front-line presence, actively deterring theft, managing incidents, and contributing to a positive shopping experience for all visitors. This role is essential for maintaining order and preventing loss, requiring a blend of assertiveness and exceptional customer service orientation. You will work closely with store management and staff to uphold our rigorous security standards and respond effectively to any potential threats or emergencies, ensuring our store remains a safe, secure, and pleasant place for everyone to shop and work. Your proactive approach will be key to identifying and mitigating risks before they escalate, safeguarding our assets and, most importantly, our people.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular, thorough patrols of the store premises, including sales floors, stockrooms, parking areas, and perimeter, to deter theft, vandalism, and ensure general security.
- Monitor surveillance equipment, including CCTV systems, alarm panels, and access control, promptly responding to any alerts or suspicious activities.
- Respond effectively and professionally to security incidents, including but not limited to shoplifting attempts, customer disputes, disturbances, and medical emergencies, strictly following established company protocols and legal guidelines.
- Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with inquiries, offering directions, and generally contributing to a welcoming and safe shopping environment, all while maintaining a visible security presence.
- Enforce company policies and procedures rigorously, particularly those related to loss prevention, safety, and conduct, ensuring compliance by both staff and visitors.
- Complete detailed, accurate, and timely incident reports, daily activity logs, and any other required documentation pertaining to security events or observations.
- Collaborate seamlessly with store management, local law enforcement, and emergency services when necessary to address significant security concerns or critical incidents.
- Conduct routine checks on fire safety equipment, emergency exits, and overall store conditions to identify and report potential hazards.
- Assist in the secure opening and closing procedures of the store to ensure the integrity of the premises.
- De-escalate potentially volatile situations with tact, professionalism, and effective communication techniques, minimizing risk to all parties.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to observe and identify suspicious behavior, potential security risks, and unsafe conditions accurately.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with diverse individuals and complete comprehensive reports.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and make sound judgments quickly under pressure during emergencies or stressful situations.
- Physical fitness to conduct extensive patrols, stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and respond physically to emergencies if required.
- Basic knowledge of security procedures, loss prevention techniques, and relevant legal considerations.
- Proficiency in utilizing security equipment such as CCTV systems, two-way radios, and alarm panels.
- Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as a vital part of a larger team.
- Unquestionable integrity, honesty, and a high level of professionalism in all aspects of the role.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1-2 years of demonstrable experience in a security role, ideally within a retail or customer-facing environment.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
- Knowledge of local laws and regulations pertaining to security, public safety, and incident response in Indiana.
- Prior experience operating and monitoring advanced CCTV and alarm systems.
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent; further education in criminal justice or security management is a plus.
- Experience in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques.
