Job Description
Are you a meticulous wordsmith with a passion for simplifying complex information? Do you thrive on creating crystal-clear documentation that empowers users and teams? The Very Group is seeking a talented Technical Writer to join our growing team in Old Swan, Liverpool. In this crucial role, you will be instrumental in developing, writing, and maintaining high-quality technical documentation and training manuals for our internal platforms, products, and processes. You will collaborate closely with product managers, developers, QA engineers, and business stakeholders across various departments to translate technical jargon into user-friendly, accurate, and engaging content. From comprehensive user guides and API documentation to internal process manuals and training materials, your work will be vital in ensuring our teams operate efficiently and our new features are adopted seamlessly. This is an exciting opportunity to shape how we communicate internally and externally, contributing directly to our operational excellence and continued innovation in the fast-paced e-commerce landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, write, and edit clear, concise, and comprehensive technical documentation, including user manuals, administrator guides, online help, API documentation, and release notes.
- Create engaging and effective training manuals and materials for new software functionalities, system updates, and internal processes.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), including product owners, developers, and project managers, to gather and interpret technical information.
- Maintain and update existing documentation to reflect product enhancements, process changes, and system improvements.
- Ensure all documentation adheres to established brand guidelines, terminology, and quality standards.
- Organize and manage documentation within our chosen content management systems (CMS) and knowledge bases.
- Conduct peer reviews and content audits to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability across all materials.
- Identify opportunities to improve documentation processes, tools, and content delivery methods.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience as a Technical Writer in a technology or e-commerce environment.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into easily understandable language.
- Proficiency with documentation tools and content management systems (e.g., Confluence, SharePoint, MadCap Flare, Paligo, or similar).
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency in grammar, style, and terminology.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced agile environment.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) for documentation assets.
- Proficiency in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Journalism, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience with instructional design principles and creating multimedia training content.
- Familiarity with UX principles and user-centered design approaches to documentation.
- Understanding of e-commerce platforms, software development lifecycles (SDLC), and agile methodologies.
