Southcoast Health is seeking a talented and dedicated Technical Writer – Documentation Support professional to join our team in the vibrant Historic District of Savannah. In this crucial role, you will be instrumental in bridging the gap between our innovative healthcare technology solutions and the diverse users who rely on them daily. You will be responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining a wide array of technical documentation, including user manuals, system specifications, API guides, release notes, and standard operating procedures for our various clinical and administrative software systems. Your work will directly impact the efficiency of our healthcare providers, administrative staff, and ultimately, the quality of patient care by ensuring that all technology users have access to accurate, up-to-date, and easy-to-understand information. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, write, and edit high-quality technical documentation, including user guides, release notes, online help, FAQs, system administration guides, and API documentation.
- Collaborate closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to gather and understand complex technical information.
- Ensure documentation is accurate, complete, grammatically correct, and compliant with established branding, style guides, and regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA).
- Translate complex technical concepts and jargon into easily understandable language for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Maintain and update existing documentation to reflect product enhancements, changes, and new features.
- Manage documentation through its entire lifecycle, from planning and development to review, publication, and archival.
- Assist in defining and standardizing documentation processes, tools, and best practices.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of documentation quality and usability.
- Conduct thorough content reviews and peer editing to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to documentation standards.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Journalism, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience as a Technical Writer in a corporate or healthcare IT environment.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a strong command of English grammar, style, and vocabulary.
- Proficiency with documentation tools such such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), Adobe Acrobat, and content management systems (CMS).
- Ability to quickly learn and understand complex software applications and technical concepts.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Experience with creating and managing structured documentation (e.g., DITA, XML) is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or advanced certification in Technical Writing or a related field.
- Experience with healthcare IT systems, electronic health records (EHR), or medical devices.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
- Proficiency in MadCap Flare, Paligo, Adobe FrameMaker, or similar authoring tools.
- Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator) for creating diagrams and visuals.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards for documentation.
