Key Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers in the preparation and delivery of engaging classroom activities and lessons.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to pupils, focusing on literacy, numeracy, and other core subjects.
  • Support children with special educational needs (SEN) to ensure their full inclusion and academic progress.
  • Help to manage classroom behaviour and maintain a positive, safe, and orderly learning environment.
  • Prepare and maintain classroom resources and equipment.
  • Supervise children during breaks, lunchtimes, and school trips.
  • Contribute to the assessment and recording of pupil progress.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and other staff members regarding pupil development.
  • Support the social and emotional development of pupils, fostering their independence and self-esteem.

Required Skills

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above.
  • Demonstrable experience (at least 1 year) working with children in an educational or childcare setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to meet the diverse needs of pupils and the school.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience with Special Educational Needs (SEN) support.
  • Knowledge of the UK primary school curriculum.
  • First Aid qualification.
