Your daily activities will involve engaging directly with clients, conducting thorough tax research, preparing accurate tax computations, and defending client positions during tax audits and examinations by revenue services such as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and State Boards of Internal Revenue (SBIR). You will be expected to provide expert advice on various tax types including Corporate Income Tax, Personal Income Tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), Withholding Tax (WHT), Capital Gains Tax, and other relevant levies. This role demands a proactive approach to understanding client needs, excellent analytical skills to interpret complex tax codes, and superb communication abilities to articulate solutions clearly and concisely. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review various tax returns (Corporate Income Tax, Personal Income Tax, VAT, WHT, etc.) for accuracy and compliance with relevant tax laws.
  • Provide expert tax advisory services to clients, including tax planning, structuring, and optimization strategies.
  • Represent clients before revenue authorities (FIRS, SBIR) during tax audits, assessments, and dispute resolution processes.
  • Conduct in-depth tax research to interpret complex tax legislation and provide clear, actionable advice.
  • Stay updated with changes in Nigerian tax laws, regulations, and pronouncements, communicating impacts to clients and internal teams.
  • Assist clients in obtaining tax clearances, waivers, and other relevant tax documents.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, understanding their businesses to proactively identify tax opportunities and risks.
  • Prepare tax reports, opinions, and memoranda for clients and management.
  • Support the training and development of junior tax professionals within the firm.
  • Ensure timely filing of tax returns and remittances to avoid penalties and ensure client compliance.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Tax Consultant, Tax Analyst, or similar role in an accounting firm or revenue service.
  • In-depth knowledge of Nigerian tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements (FIRS, SBIR).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines effectively.
  • High level of integrity and professional ethics.
  • Membership or progress towards membership in relevant professional bodies (e.g., ICAN, CITN).
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Taxation, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Full certification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) or Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).
  • Experience with tax preparation software specific to the Nigerian context.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative tax strategies.
  • Strong network within the Nigerian tax community and professional bodies.
  • Experience with international taxation principles is a plus.
