Job Description

Are you a meticulous and analytical individual with a passion for precise land measurement and property valuation? Alder King is seeking an experienced Surveyor specialising in Land Mapping & Valuation to join our thriving Bristol office, serving clients across The Downs and broader regional areas. This pivotal role involves a diverse range of responsibilities, from conducting detailed topographical and boundary surveys using cutting-edge technology to performing comprehensive property valuations for a variety of purposes. You will play a crucial part in providing essential data for development projects, legal disputes, land acquisitions, and financial reporting. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive topographical, boundary, and measured building surveys using advanced surveying equipment (e.g., total stations, GPS/GNSS, laser scanners).
  • Process and interpret raw survey data, creating detailed maps, plans, and 3D models using CAD and GIS software.
  • Perform accurate property valuations for various asset classes, including commercial, residential, and development land, adhering strictly to RICS Red Book standards.
  • Prepare detailed valuation reports, land registry plans, and other technical documents for clients, solicitors, and financial institutions.
  • Advise clients on land use, boundary disputes, planning applications, and property development potential, offering expert guidance.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality outputs that meet client expectations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of surveying techniques, valuation methodologies, relevant legislation, and industry best practices.
  • Liaise directly with clients, local authorities, legal professionals, and other stakeholders, providing expert advice and fostering strong, productive relationships.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in land surveying techniques, including topographical, boundary, and measured surveys.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation) and GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Strong understanding of property valuation principles and methodologies (RICS Red Book).
  • Excellent data analysis and report writing skills, with keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to interpret legal documents, deeds, and plans related to land and property.
  • Competence in using modern surveying equipment (total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective client and stakeholder engagement.
  • A valid UK driving license and willingness to travel to various sites across the region.

Preferred Qualifications

  • RICS Chartered Surveyor (MRICS or FRICS) or actively working towards chartership.
  • BSc (Hons) or MSc in Surveying, Geomatics, Real Estate, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience with 3D laser scanning and point cloud processing technologies.
  • Knowledge of local planning policies and regulations specific to Bristol and the South West.
  • Demonstrated project management experience within a surveying or valuation context.
