Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Survey Technician – Land Mapping to join our dynamic team in Kinshasa, Kinshasa-Capital Province. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in supporting various civil engineering and construction projects by providing accurate and reliable land survey data. You will be responsible for conducting field surveys, processing survey data, preparing maps, and assisting in the meticulous planning and precise execution of our diverse infrastructure projects. This position demands a keen eye for detail, profound proficiency with modern surveying equipment and software, and an unwavering commitment to precision and stringent safety standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive land surveys using advanced total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, drones, and other state-of-the-art surveying equipment.
  • Collect, process, and meticulously analyze survey data, ensuring utmost accuracy and strict compliance with project specifications and recognized industry standards.
  • Prepare detailed topographical maps, precise boundary surveys, accurate construction staking, and comprehensive as-built drawings utilizing advanced CAD and GIS software.
  • Assist in the strategic planning and efficient execution of survey fieldwork, including thorough site reconnaissance, precise equipment setup, and meticulous data recording.
  • Perform complex calculations to accurately determine property boundaries, elevations, volumes, and various other geodetic measurements.
  • Collaborate closely and effectively with project managers, civil engineers, and other key stakeholders to provide essential survey support throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot surveying equipment, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and longevity.
  • Adhere strictly to all established safety protocols, company policies, and environmental regulations on all job sites.
  • Document field procedures, data sources, and project progress in clear, concise, and meticulously organized reports.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues encountered with surveying equipment or software efficiently in the field.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in operating total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and automatic levels.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar CAD software for drafting and design.
  • Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for spatial data analysis and mapping.
  • Ability to accurately read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and comprehensive survey documents.
  • Solid understanding of fundamental surveying principles, geodetic concepts, and various coordinate systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail and precision.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and French.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work diligently in various outdoor conditions and challenging terrains for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics, Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Certification in surveying or membership with a related professional body.
  • Experience with drone-based photogrammetry and LiDAR data acquisition and processing.
  • In-depth knowledge of local surveying regulations, practices, and land tenure systems in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
  • Previous experience working on large-scale infrastructure or complex construction projects, particularly within the African continent.
