Job Description
Bechtel is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Structural Engineer, holding a Professional Engineer (PE) license, to join our dynamic team in Burlington, Ontario. This pivotal role involves leading and executing the structural design and analysis of complex, large-scale engineering projects spanning various sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and mining. As a PE Structural Engineer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our designs, from concept development through to detailed engineering and construction support. You will apply advanced engineering principles to solve challenging structural problems, ensuring compliance with international and local codes and standards, including the Ontario Building Code. Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced structural analysis and design of various project components (e.g., foundations, steel structures, concrete structures) using industry-standard software and methodologies.
- Develop and review structural specifications, calculations, drawings, and reports in accordance with relevant codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Lead and mentor junior structural engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering professional growth within the team.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams (e.g., civil, mechanical, electrical, architectural) to ensure integrated and optimized design solutions.
- Conduct site visits as required to assess existing conditions, resolve field engineering issues, and provide construction support.
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate structural materials, technologies, and construction methods.
- Ensure all designs adhere to Bechtel’s stringent safety, quality, and environmental policies.
- Participate in client meetings, present design solutions, and address technical queries.
- Manage project deadlines and budgets for structural engineering tasks.
- Stay current with the latest structural engineering innovations, software, and industry best practices.
Required Skills
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible for immediate registration.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in structural engineering design.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, SAFE, RAM Structural System).
- Strong knowledge of Canadian building codes and standards (e.g., NBCC, CSA S16, CSA A23.3).
- Experience with both steel and concrete design.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Structural Engineering.
- Experience in heavy industrial, mining, energy, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with international codes and standards (e.g., AISC, ACI, Eurocodes).
- Experience with BIM software (e.g., Revit Structures).
- Project management experience or certifications.
