Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Structural Engineer with a strong focus on design and safety to join our dynamic team in Mandeville. This pivotal role requires a professional capable of overseeing all aspects of structural integrity for various construction projects, from initial concept to final execution. As a Structural Engineer at S.G.D. Limited, you will be instrumental in ensuring that all our structures are not only aesthetically pleasing and functionally sound but also meet the highest standards of safety and compliance with local and international building codes, particularly the Jamaica National Building Code. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive structural analysis and design for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, ensuring compliance with the Jamaica National Building Code and relevant international standards.
  • Prepare detailed structural drawings, specifications, and reports using advanced engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SAP2000, ETABS, Staad.Pro).
  • Collaborate effectively with architects, project managers, contractors, and other engineering disciplines to integrate structural designs seamlessly into overall project plans.
  • Perform site inspections to monitor construction progress, assess quality of work, and ensure adherence to approved structural designs and safety protocols.
  • Review and approve structural shop drawings and calculations submitted by contractors and subcontractors.
  • Provide expert technical advice and solutions to resolve complex structural challenges and design issues that may arise during construction.
  • Develop and implement robust safety plans and procedures related to structural elements, ensuring a safe working environment and long-term structural integrity.
  • Manage project documentation, including design calculations, reports, and communication logs, maintaining meticulous records.
  • Participate in client meetings and presentations, effectively communicating technical information and design rationale.
  • Stay abreast of the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in structural engineering and construction safety.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in structural design and analysis of various building types.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, Staad.Pro, SAFE).
  • Expertise in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) for drafting and detailing.
  • Thorough understanding of the Jamaica National Building Code and international structural design codes (e.g., ACI, AISC, ASCE).
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, including reinforced concrete, structural steel, and timber.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Jamaica or eligibility for registration.
  • Master's Degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Experience with sustainable design practices and earthquake-resistant design principles.
