Key Responsibilities
- Accurately process all customer transactions using Point of Sale (POS) systems, including cash, card, and mobile payments.
- Greet customers warmly, provide courteous and efficient service, and assist with product inquiries or location.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and stocked checkout area, ensuring promotional materials are current.
- Reconcile cash drawers at the beginning and end of each shift, ensuring accuracy and accountability for all transactions.
- Handle customer complaints or issues professionally and efficiently, escalating to management when necessary to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Assist in bagging purchased items and ensuring customers have all their goods before leaving the store.
- Promote store loyalty programs or special offers to customers to enhance their shopping experience and drive sales.
- Adhere strictly to all company policies and procedures, including those related to loss prevention, safety, and hygiene.
- Collaborate effectively with other team members to ensure smooth store operations and a seamless customer journey.
- Assist with other retail duties as assigned during downtimes, such as stocking shelves, cleaning, or inventory checks.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to handle cash and process transactions accurately with minimal errors.
- Strong customer service orientation with a friendly, approachable, and professional demeanor.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, capable of interacting clearly with customers and colleagues.
- Basic mathematical proficiency for counting money, calculating change, and reconciling tills.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Reliability and punctuality, especially for early morning shifts.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 10kg occasionally as required by retail operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (6-12 months) as a cashier or in a customer-facing retail role.
- Familiarity with modern Point of Sale (POS) systems and retail software.
- Minimum of SSCE/WAEC/NECO certificate; OND or HND in a relevant field is a plus.
- Ability to speak local languages (e.g., Yoruba, Igbo) in addition to English.
- Experience working morning shifts in a retail setting.
