Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our dynamic team in Peterborough. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review financial statements, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
  • Manage client ledgers, including sales, purchase, and nominal ledgers, performing regular reconciliations.
  • Assist with the preparation of corporate and personal tax returns, ensuring timely and accurate submission.
  • Process payroll for clients, including managing HMRC submissions and related queries.
  • Conduct bank reconciliations and manage cash flow statements.
  • Support senior accountants and partners with ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting tasks.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to gather necessary information and provide updates.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting software, industry best practices, and regulatory changes.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to client accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal accounting procedures and best practices.

Required Skills

  • AAT Level 4 qualification or equivalent (e.g., part-qualified ACCA/ACA)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an accounting practice or a similar financial role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage Line 50).
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS).
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working towards ACCA or ACA qualification.
  • Experience with tax compliance software.
