Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Sound Engineer to join our dynamic production studio team at RTNC Kindu. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a keen ear, technical expertise, and a dedication to delivering pristine audio quality across various broadcast and recorded productions. As our Sound Engineer, you will be instrumental in all stages of audio production, from initial recording to final mix and mastering. You will work on a diverse range of projects including live radio broadcasts, television segments, news reports, cultural programs, music recordings, and promotional content. Your responsibilities will extend beyond technical execution to include creative input, ensuring that the audio elements perfectly complement the visual and narrative components of our productions. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain a wide range of audio equipment, including mixing consoles, microphones, digital audio workstations (DAWs), and outboard gear.
- Record, mix, and master audio for live broadcasts, pre-recorded television and radio programs, jingles, promos, and other studio productions.
- Ensure optimal sound quality, clarity, and balance for all audio outputs, adhering to broadcast standards and artistic vision.
- Set up, test, and troubleshoot audio equipment before and during recordings and live transmissions.
- Collaborate closely with producers, directors, presenters, and other team members to achieve desired audio aesthetics.
- Implement sound effects, music, and voice-overs as required for various productions.
- Manage and organize audio assets, ensuring proper archiving and accessibility.
- Conduct regular maintenance and minor repairs on studio equipment; report major technical issues to the relevant department.
- Stay updated with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in audio engineering.
- Provide technical support during remote broadcasts or outside recording sessions as needed.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in operating professional mixing consoles (analog and digital).
- Expertise in digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Adobe Audition, Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or similar.
- Strong understanding of acoustics, microphone placement techniques, and signal flow.
- Demonstrated ability to mix and master audio for various media, including broadcast.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills for audio hardware and software.
- Solid understanding of audio effects, dynamics processing, and equalization.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for team collaboration.
- Fluency in French and Lingala (or other local languages prevalent in Maniema Province) is highly advantageous.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Audio Engineering, Music Production, Broadcast Technology, or a related field.
- Certifications in specific audio software or hardware (e.g., Avid Pro Tools User/Operator).
- Experience with live sound reinforcement and broadcast-specific audio systems.
- Knowledge of video editing software and synchronization of audio to video.
- Familiarity with national broadcast regulations and standards.
- Portfolio of previous audio work, including mixing and mastering samples.
