Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and enthusiastic Sound Engineer with a strong focus on audio setup to join our dynamic technical team based in St Leonard’s, Edinburgh. This is a pivotal role for an individual passionate about delivering pristine audio experiences across a diverse range of live events, corporate functions, theatrical productions, and installations. You will be responsible for the meticulous planning, installation, operation, and dismantling of sound systems, ensuring optimal acoustic performance and client satisfaction at every engagement.
As a Sound Engineer – Audio Setup, you will not just connect cables; you will orchestrate sound. Your day could involve programming complex digital mixing consoles for a concert, tuning a PA system in a challenging acoustical environment, or ensuring crystal-clear dialogue for a corporate presentation. Key Responsibilities
- Design, plan, and install complex audio systems for a wide variety of live events, corporate functions, and permanent installations.
- Operate and mix live sound for events using both analogue and digital mixing consoles, ensuring optimal audio quality.
- Conduct thorough pre-event equipment checks, system tuning, and post-event decommissioning.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical audio issues promptly and efficiently on-site.
- Liaise directly with clients, artists, and event organisers to understand their audio requirements and provide technical consultation.
- Manage and maintain a diverse inventory of audio equipment, including microphones, speakers, amplifiers, and processing units.
- Ensure all audio setups comply with health, safety, and industry best practice standards.
- Collaborate effectively with lighting, video, and rigging teams to deliver integrated technical solutions.
- Provide technical support and guidance to junior technicians and crew members.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years professional experience as a Sound Engineer, particularly in live event audio setup.
- Proficient knowledge of analogue and digital mixing consoles (e.g., DiGiCo, Yamaha, Allen & Heath).
- Expertise in audio signal flow, acoustics, and sound reinforcement principles.
- Strong understanding of microphone types, placement techniques, and wireless microphone systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and system schematics.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills under pressure.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client and team interaction.
- Valid UK driving license and ability to travel to various event locations.
- Commitment to health and safety regulations in event production.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant degree or professional certification in Audio Engineering, Live Sound Production, or a related field.
- Experience with audio networking protocols (e.g., Dante, AVB, AES67).
- Familiarity with acoustic measurement software (e.g., SMAART, Open Sound Meter).
- Basic knowledge of lighting or video systems.
- IPAF or PASMA certification.
- Experience with large-scale PA systems and line array technology.
