In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting children, young people, and their families within our programs. You will work under the guidance of experienced social workers, learning best practices in direct client service, case management, and community engagement. Key Responsibilities
- Assist experienced social workers in conducting initial assessments and developing individualized care plans for children and families.
- Provide direct support and guidance to children and young people in various settings, ensuring their well-being and development.
- Participate in case conferences and team meetings, contributing to collaborative decision-making processes.
- Help facilitate educational and recreational activities for children within SOS Children's Villages and family strengthening programs.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records under supervision, adhering to organizational policies and ethical guidelines.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including schools, healthcare providers, and community resources, to ensure comprehensive support for families.
- Engage with families to understand their needs and connect them with appropriate support services.
- Assist in organizing and implementing community outreach initiatives to raise awareness and identify families in need.
- Continuously engage in professional development, including attending training sessions and supervision meetings.
- Adhere to all child protection policies and procedures, ensuring the safety and security of all children under our care.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Pedagogy, or a related field (or currently pursuing/recently graduated)
- Strong empathetic and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Latvian.
- A genuine passion for working with children and families, especially those in vulnerable situations.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).
- High level of integrity, discretion, and respect for confidentiality.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to challenges.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency in Russian language (verbal and/or written).
- Previous volunteer experience in social services, youth work, or a related field.
- Knowledge of the Latvian social welfare system and relevant legislation.
- Familiarity with child protection principles and practices.
- Valid driver's license (B category) and access to a car.
