Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Social Worker to join our Family & Community team, serving the vibrant and diverse communities across Sheffield, including the Hillsborough area. This is a profoundly rewarding role for an experienced social worker committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of children, young people, and their families. As a Family & Community Social Worker, you will be instrumental in assessing complex family situations, developing robust care plans, and implementing interventions that promote safety, well-being, and positive outcomes for children.
You will work autonomously, managing a caseload that requires excellent analytical skills, sound judgement, and a deep understanding of relevant legislation and best practice. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of children and families to identify needs, risks, and strengths.
- Develop, implement, and review child-centred care plans, ensuring they are culturally sensitive and outcome-focused.
- Undertake direct work with children, young people, and families, providing support, guidance, and interventions.
- Chair and participate in multi-agency meetings, fostering effective collaboration with partners.
- Prepare and present reports for various forums, including Child Protection Conferences, Looked After Children Reviews, and court proceedings.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case records in accordance with statutory requirements and departmental policies.
- Manage a diverse caseload, prioritising effectively and demonstrating excellent time management skills.
- Advocate on behalf of children and families, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are upheld.
- Participate in duty rotas and respond effectively to safeguarding concerns and crises.
- Engage in continuous professional development and reflective practice.
Required Skills
- Social Work England registration (or eligibility for registration)
- DipSW, CQSW, BA Hons Social Work, or equivalent professional qualification
- Proven experience in children's social care, specifically in family and community settings
- Thorough knowledge of child protection legislation, frameworks, and best practice
- Excellent assessment, analytical, and report writing skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage complex caseloads
- Demonstrable commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and cultural competence
- Full UK driving license and access to a car (or ability to travel independently across the city)
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-qualifying award in Social Work (e.g., Practice Educator Award)
- Experience with restorative practice or systemic family therapy approaches
- Knowledge of local community resources and support networks within Sheffield
- Experience in court work and presenting evidence
