Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and highly motivated Social Worker (Assistente Social) to join our dedicated team in Berlin for an immediate start. This pivotal role involves providing comprehensive social support and guidance to individuals and families facing a variety of challenges, including but not limited to, integration difficulties, homelessness, poverty, and mental health issues. As a Social Worker with the DRK, you will be instrumental in empowering our clients, helping them navigate complex social systems, access essential resources, and develop sustainable solutions for their well-being. This position requires a proactive approach, strong analytical skills, and an unwavering commitment to our humanitarian principles. While the role’s primary language of operation is German, an understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds and potentially other languages, as hinted by ‘Assistente Social’ in the title, is highly valued. You will work within a supportive multidisciplinary team, engaging in both direct client work and collaborative community initiatives. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' social, emotional, and practical needs, developing individualized support plans.
  • Provide one-on-one counseling, advocacy, and crisis intervention services to individuals and families.
  • Connect clients with appropriate community resources, including housing, employment, healthcare, legal aid, and educational programs.
  • Facilitate group sessions and workshops on topics such as life skills, stress management, and integration.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams, external agencies, and community partners to ensure holistic client care.
  • Advocate for clients' rights and needs within various social, health, and administrative systems.
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate client progress, adjusting support plans as necessary to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of social work practices and program development within the DRK.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Social Pedagogy, or a related field (recognized in Germany).
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in social work or a similar role.
  • Proficiency in German (C1 level or higher) and English (B2 level or higher), both written and spoken.
  • Strong understanding of German social welfare systems, laws, and available resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proven experience in case management, crisis intervention, and client advocacy.
  • Empathy, resilience, and a non-judgmental approach to working with diverse populations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and client management software.
  • Valid driver's license (Class B) and willingness to travel locally as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Social Work or a related field.
  • Additional language proficiency, especially Portuguese or other widely spoken community languages in Berlin.
  • Experience working with refugees, migrants, or individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles.
  • Certifications in specific therapeutic approaches or counseling techniques.
  • Prior experience working within a non-profit or humanitarian organization.
