Key Responsibilities
- Perform various welding processes, including MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-cored, on diverse materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings to determine layout and dimensions of components.
- Inspect welds for adherence to specifications, utilizing precision measuring instruments and performing rigorous quality control checks.
- Operate and maintain welding equipment and tools in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.
- Setup, adjust, and troubleshoot welding machines and related equipment to achieve optimal weld quality.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company safety policies, industry standards (e.g., CWB, ASME), and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in fitting, grinding, and finishing operations as required to achieve desired product quality and aesthetic standards.
- Collaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other team members to optimize fabrication processes, resolve technical issues, and improve efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience as a Skilled Welder in a heavy industrial, manufacturing, or similar complex fabrication environment.
- Proficiency in multiple welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-cored).
- Ability to read and accurately interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and welding symbols.
- Demonstrated knowledge of welding codes, standards, and robust safety procedures.
- Strong attention to detail, precision, and a commitment to producing high-quality, defect-free work.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks requiring standing, bending, lifting, and working in various positions for extended periods.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a cohesive team.
- Valid welding certifications from a recognized authority (e.g., CWB, AWS, or equivalent international body).
Preferred Qualifications
- Red Seal Journeyman Welder certification or an equivalent international credential demonstrating mastery of the trade.
- Experience with specialized materials or advanced welding techniques (e.g., orbital welding, exotic alloys).
- Previous experience in the nuclear, marine, shipbuilding, or aerospace industries.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Certification in overhead crane operation, forklift operation, or other heavy equipment relevant to a fabrication shop.
