Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine dimensions, materials, and installation procedures for wooden structures and furniture.
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join wood, wood substitutes, and other materials with precision using hand and power tools.
  • Construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, such as door and window frames, walls, stairways, and partitions.
  • Specialize in crafting custom furniture pieces, cabinetry, shelving, and other interior woodwork elements according to design specifications.
  • Select and evaluate wood for quality, grain, and suitability for the project, minimizing waste and ensuring structural integrity.
  • Install hardware, such as hinges, handles, locks, and decorative trim.
  • Perform finishing activities, including sanding, staining, varnishing, and polishing to achieve desired aesthetic and protective qualities.
  • Ensure all work adheres to building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working order and ensure a clean and safe work environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with other construction professionals, including architects, designers, and fellow tradespersons.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to materials, design, or installation on-site.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Carpenter, with a strong portfolio in furniture and finish carpentry.
  • Exceptional proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Expertise in using hand and power tools common to the carpentry trade (e.g., saws, drills, routers, planers, sanders).
  • In-depth knowledge of different wood types, joinery techniques, and finishing materials.
  • Strong mathematical skills and precision in measurements.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity required for manual labor and handling materials.
