Job Description
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Shipping Clerk with specialized experience in customs, import, and export procedures to join our vibrant team in Twickenham Park, Spanish Town. This critical role is integral to our supply chain, ensuring the efficient and compliant movement of goods both into and out of Jamaica. As a Shipping Clerk, you will be responsible for meticulously preparing, processing, and managing all documentation related to international and local shipments. This includes ensuring strict adherence to Jamaican customs regulations, international trade laws, and company policies. You will be the linchpin in coordinating with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal departments to facilitate timely deliveries and pickups, resolve any shipping discrepancies, and maintain accurate records. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of import/export logistics, tariffs, and customs declarations, contributing significantly to our operational efficiency and compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and process all shipping documentation, including invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, customs declarations, and certificates of origin for both import and export shipments.
- Ensure all shipping activities comply with Jamaican customs regulations, international trade laws, and company policies.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, and internal departments to schedule and track shipments, ensuring timely delivery and pickup.
- Monitor inventory levels in relation to outgoing and incoming shipments, assisting with stock reconciliation when necessary.
- Handle customs clearance procedures, including classification of goods, calculation of duties and taxes, and preparation of all necessary declarations.
- Resolve shipping discrepancies, damages, or delays by liaising with relevant parties and implementing corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all shipping activities, documentation, and communication for auditing purposes.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of goods, ensuring proper handling and verification against shipping documents.
- Stay updated on changes in import/export regulations, tariffs, and trade agreements to ensure continuous compliance.
- Provide regular updates on shipment statuses to management and relevant internal stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a shipping, logistics, or import/export role.
- Proficiency in Jamaican customs procedures, import/export regulations, and international trade documentation.
- Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Associate's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems or dedicated shipping/logistics software.
- Knowledge of warehousing and inventory management best practices.
- Certification in customs brokerage or international logistics.
