Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Safety Officer to join our Shell team, serving our operations within the Columbine Valley and broader Littleton area. This critical role is integral to upholding Shell’s unwavering commitment to Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) standards. As a Safety Officer, you will be the frontline guardian of our safety culture, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and Shell’s internal HSSE policies. You will play a pivotal role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across various operational sites, fostering an environment where safety is everyone’s responsibility. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with Shell's HSSE policies, procedures, and local, state, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Develop, implement, and monitor safety programs and initiatives to prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational health issues.
  • Lead and facilitate safety training sessions for employees and contractors on various HSSE topics, including emergency response, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, and hazardous materials handling.
  • Investigate all incidents, near-misses, and accidents to determine root causes, develop corrective actions, and ensure proper documentation and reporting.
  • Maintain comprehensive safety records, including incident reports, training logs, inspection findings, and compliance documentation.
  • Provide expert safety advice and guidance to management and operational teams on risk assessments, job safety analyses (JSAs), and safe work procedures.
  • Participate in emergency response planning and drills, ensuring the readiness and effectiveness of response teams.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through continuous communication, awareness campaigns, and employee engagement.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in an HSSE role, preferably within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial sectors.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant environmental and safety standards.
  • Proven ability to conduct effective safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively train, influence, and engage diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement safety programs and procedures.
  • Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally to various sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), OSHA 30-hour certification, or equivalent.
  • Experience with Shell's HSSE management system or similar global safety frameworks.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
