Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team in Bariga, Shomolu, Nigeria, with an immediate start. This pivotal role involves overseeing the mechanical integrity, maintenance, and optimization of critical equipment and systems within our operational facilities. You will be instrumental in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our assets, contributing directly to our operational excellence targets. Your responsibilities will span across various stages of the asset lifecycle, from design review and commissioning to routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert mechanical engineering support for the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of static and rotating equipment in Shell facilities.
- Conduct root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions to enhance reliability.
- Develop and review maintenance strategies, procedures, and integrity management plans for mechanical systems.
- Participate in turnarounds, shutdowns, and major maintenance projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective execution.
- Ensure all mechanical engineering activities comply with Shell's technical standards, safety protocols, and relevant industry regulations.
- Evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements to existing equipment and operational practices.
- Collaborate with procurement teams to specify and procure high-quality spare parts and equipment.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
- Prepare technical reports, performance summaries, and present findings to management and project teams.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in mechanical engineering within the oil and gas, petrochemical, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Strong understanding of static and rotating equipment design, operation, and maintenance (e.g., pumps, compressors, turbines, vessels, piping).
- Proficiency in engineering software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, CAESAR II, SolidWorks) and maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Familiarity with international engineering standards (API, ASME, ISO) and Nigerian regulatory requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, fluent in English (written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Professional engineering registration (COREN in Nigeria or equivalent international certification).
- Experience with reliability centered maintenance (RCM) and failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA).
- Project management experience, particularly in engineering or maintenance projects.
- Certification in relevant safety standards (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA).
