Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain environmental management systems and programs in accordance with Shell policies and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular environmental audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
- Prepare and submit comprehensive environmental reports to regulatory agencies (e.g., EPA, state environmental departments) and internal stakeholders.
- Provide expert guidance and support to operational teams on environmental issues, including waste management, air quality, water discharge, and spill prevention.
- Investigate environmental incidents, determine root causes, and develop corrective and preventive actions.
- Stay abreast of evolving environmental laws, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure continuous compliance and proactive management.
- Lead or participate in environmental training initiatives for employees and contractors.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Shell's sustainability initiatives and goals.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in environmental management, compliance, or consulting, preferably in the energy or heavy industry sectors.
- In-depth knowledge of US federal, state (Connecticut preferred), and local environmental regulations (e.g., CAA, CWA, RCRA, CERCLA).
- Proven experience with Environmental Management Systems (EMS) such as ISO 14001.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentation abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, complex operational environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant environmental discipline.
- Professional certification (e.g., CHMM, CEP).
- Experience with environmental data management software and tools.
