Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team in Ikeja, Lagos. This full-time, on-site role is pivotal in ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of Shell’s electrical infrastructure within our facilities and projects across Nigeria. As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of critical electrical systems, ranging from power generation and distribution to complex control systems. You will play a crucial role in maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational integrity, adhering to both Shell’s stringent internal guidelines and relevant industry regulations. You will collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, process engineers, and operations personnel, to deliver robust engineering solutions. Key Responsibilities
- Design, specify, and oversee the installation and commissioning of electrical systems for various projects and facilities.
- Conduct routine maintenance, inspections, and preventative measures on electrical equipment, including generators, transformers, switchgear, and control panels.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical faults, implementing effective and timely solutions to minimize downtime.
- Ensure all electrical work complies with Shell's safety standards, industry best practices, and Nigerian regulatory requirements (e.g., DPR, NESREA).
- Prepare and review technical specifications, engineering drawings, and operational procedures.
- Manage and supervise contractors and vendors during project execution and maintenance activities.
- Participate in HAZOP studies, risk assessments, and incident investigations related to electrical systems.
- Provide technical support and guidance to operations and maintenance teams.
- Implement and promote continuous improvement initiatives for electrical system reliability and energy efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of electrical equipment, maintenance logs, and project documentation.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of proven experience as an Electrical Engineer, preferably in the oil & gas, manufacturing, or heavy industrial sector.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
- Proficiency in interpreting electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and control logic.
- Familiarity with relevant international and local electrical codes and standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE, NFPA, Nigerian Electricity Safety Regulations).
- Demonstrated experience with electrical safety procedures and practices (LOTO, arc flash hazards).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional registration with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) or Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).
- Experience with electrical design software such as ETAP, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar.
- Knowledge of Instrumentation and Control systems.
- Certifications in project management (e.g., PMP) or functional safety (e.g., TUV FSE).
- Experience with high-voltage (HV) and medium-voltage (MV) electrical systems.
- Familiarity with enterprise asset management (EAM) systems (e.g., SAP PM).
