As a Mechanical Engineer at Seplat Energy, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of our critical mechanical equipment and systems. Your responsibilities will span across the full lifecycle of mechanical assets, from initial design review and commissioning support to routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and asset decommissioning planning. You will be instrumental in supporting our ongoing operations, planned preventative and corrective maintenance activities, and various engineering projects across our facilities. This position requires a strong technical background, practical experience in the oil and gas industry, and an unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance.

You will work within a highly collaborative environment, engaging directly with multidisciplinary teams including operations, electrical, instrumentation, and process engineers, to implement innovative solutions and drive continuous improvement across all mechanical aspects of our operations. Your expertise will be crucial in minimizing unscheduled downtime, optimizing operational costs through efficiency gains, and extending the lifespan of our valuable production and processing assets. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the maintenance, inspection, and repair of all mechanical equipment including rotating machinery (pumps, compressors, turbines) and static equipment (vessels, heat exchangers, piping systems).
  • Develop and implement robust preventative and predictive maintenance strategies to maximize asset reliability and minimize downtime.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of turnaround and shutdown activities, ensuring timely and cost-effective completion.
  • Provide technical support to operations personnel for mechanical issues, ensuring safe and efficient operation of facilities.
  • Ensure all mechanical work complies with relevant industry standards, company policies, and Nigerian regulatory requirements (e.g., DPR, NOSDRA).
  • Collaborate with project teams on new installations, modifications, and upgrades, ensuring mechanical integrity and constructability.
  • Manage spare parts inventory, procurement, and vendor relationships for mechanical components.
  • Prepare detailed engineering reports, maintenance schedules, and budget forecasts for mechanical assets.
  • Champion safety initiatives and promote a strong safety culture within the team and across operations.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in mechanical engineering roles, preferably within the oil & gas industry.
  • Strong understanding of rotating and static mechanical equipment operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as SAP PM or Maximo.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., API, ASME, ISO).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional engineering certification (e.g., COREN).
  • Experience with reliability engineering techniques (e.g., FMEA, RCM).
  • Knowledge of process safety management principles.
  • Experience in project management and execution of engineering projects.
  • Proficiency in engineering software like AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD tools.
