Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This pivotal role involves leading complex mechanical design projects from concept through to commissioning, primarily within our industrial solutions and power conversion segments. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be instrumental in developing innovative engineering solutions, optimizing existing systems, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and performance for critical infrastructure components and systems. You will be responsible for applying advanced engineering principles to design, analyze, and test mechanical components and systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and validation of complex mechanical systems and components from initial concept to production.
- Perform detailed engineering calculations, simulations, and analyses (e.g., stress, thermal, vibration, fluid dynamics) using advanced software tools (FEA, CFD).
- Prepare comprehensive technical specifications, engineering drawings, and design documentation in accordance with industry standards and internal procedures.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including electrical, controls, and manufacturing engineers to ensure seamless integration and optimal system performance.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring timely delivery of engineering deliverables.
- Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and failure mode and effects analyses (FMEA) to identify and mitigate potential design flaws.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering their growth and development.
- Interface with clients, suppliers, and regulatory bodies to ensure project requirements are met and solutions are compliant.
- Support commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting activities for new and existing systems.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in engineering processes, tools, and methodologies.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in mechanical design and analysis.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD Mechanical).
- Demonstrated expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
- Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective team collaboration and client interaction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Manitoba or eligibility for registration.
- Experience in industrial automation, power generation, or renewable energy sectors.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
- Knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, CSA, ISO).
- Experience with PLM/PDM systems (e.g., Teamcenter, Windchill).
