Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with daily living activities, including personal care, mobility, feeding, and hydration, maintaining their dignity and respect.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, observing and reporting any changes in a patient's condition to the nursing staff promptly.
  • Support qualified nurses in implementing care plans, administering basic treatments, and assisting with clinical procedures under supervision.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records, ensuring all documentation adheres to Trust policies and CQC standards.
  • Promote a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for patients, adhering to infection control policies and health and safety guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, their families, and carers, providing emotional support and information as appropriate.
  • Act as a role model and mentor to junior care assistants, assisting with their development and contributing to a positive team atmosphere.
  • Participate in ward/team meetings, handover sessions, and continuous professional development activities.
  • Adhere strictly to all Trust policies, procedures, and relevant NHS guidelines and legislation.
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring a smooth and supportive experience.

Required Skills

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care, or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 12 months experience as a Care Assistant or Healthcare Assistant in a formal healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor vital signs, observe patient conditions, and accurately document observations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
  • Strong teamwork ethic and ability to work effectively under supervision and independently when appropriate.
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality, data protection, and safeguarding principles.
  • Proficiency in basic IT skills for record-keeping and communication.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK or willingness to obtain a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) if applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an NHS hospital or community setting.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development relevant to healthcare.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Experience mentoring or supervising junior colleagues.
