Nebraska Medicine is actively seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Senior Care Assistant to join our dedicated healthcare team in Omaha, Nebraska. The Senior Care Assistant serves as a crucial link between patients and their primary care team, assisting with daily living activities, monitoring vital signs, documenting observations, and escalating concerns to registered nurses. Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, including assisting with personal hygiene, mobility, feeding, and other activities of daily living.
- Monitor and record vital signs, intake and output, and other patient data accurately and promptly, reporting any significant changes or concerns to the nursing staff.
- Assist patients with ambulation, transfers, and positioning to ensure comfort and prevent complications.
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and the healthcare team, providing updates and addressing questions or concerns.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe patient environment, ensuring compliance with infection control and safety protocols.
- Document care provided and observations meticulously in patient records, adhering to institutional policies and regulatory requirements.
- Serve as a resource and mentor for new or less experienced Care Assistants, sharing knowledge and best practices.
- Assist with basic medical procedures and specimen collection as delegated by the Registered Nurse and within scope of practice.
- Participate in patient care planning meetings and contribute to individualized care plans.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and rights at all times, demonstrating professionalism and respect.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in Nebraska
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a patient care role (e.g., CNA, PCT)
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and observational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and patience towards patients
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in a healthcare-related field
- Experience in an acute care hospital setting
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic)
- Leadership or mentorship experience within a healthcare team
