Key Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of garment repairs including mending tears, re-stitching seams, and patching.
- Execute alterations such as hemming, taking in/letting out seams, and adjusting sleeves.
- Replace and repair zips, buttons, and other fastenings.
- Operate industrial and domestic sewing machines proficiently, along with hand sewing techniques.
- Take accurate measurements and conduct fittings with customers when required.
- Inspect garments to identify necessary repairs and advise customers on the best course of action.
- Manage and prioritise workload to ensure timely completion of repairs and alterations.
- Maintain a clean and organised workspace, ensuring all equipment is in good working order.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Seamstress, Tailor, or Alteration Specialist.
- Expertise in both hand sewing and machine sewing techniques (industrial and domestic).
- Strong understanding of various fabrics, garment construction, and repair methods.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to take accurate measurements and interpret customer requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving skills for complex repairs and alterations.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with customers.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Fashion, Textiles, or Garment Construction.
- Experience with specialist sewing machinery or embroidery.
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role within a dry cleaning or tailoring environment.
- A portfolio showcasing previous alteration and repair work.
