Job Description
Are you a dedicated and experienced safety professional passionate about fostering a culture of zero harm in an industrial setting? BRALIMA is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Safety Officer to join our dynamic team in Tshikapa, Kasaï Province. This critical role is essential for upholding our rigorous health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards across our site and industrial operations, which encompass manufacturing processes, logistics, and facilities management. As a Safety Officer, you will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring robust safety programs, ensuring strict compliance with both local governmental regulations and international best practices set forth by the Heineken Group.
Your responsibilities will extend to conducting thorough and regular risk assessments, identifying potential hazards inherent to our industrial machinery, processes, and working environments, and devising effective mitigation strategies to safeguard our employees, contractors, and visitors. You will play a pivotal role in promoting a proactive safety culture through engaging and mandatory safety training sessions, regular site inspections, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This includes ensuring all personnel are aware of safety protocols, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and understand emergency procedures.
Furthermore, you will be responsible for investigating all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes, and recommending corrective and preventive actions to avoid recurrence. You will maintain meticulous records of all safety-related activities, incidents, and training, generating comprehensive reports for management. Your expertise will be vital in preparing and implementing emergency response plans, conducting drills, and ensuring the site is always ready to handle unforeseen circumstances. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor site-specific HSE policies and procedures in line with national regulations and corporate standards.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determine root causes, and recommend preventive measures.
- Organize and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees and contractors, including induction and refresher courses.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation and environmental regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and environmental monitoring.
- Prepare and implement emergency response plans, conduct drills, and ensure readiness for crisis situations.
- Advise management on safety-related issues and collaborate with various departments to integrate safety into all operations.
- Promote a positive safety culture through awareness campaigns, safety committees, and employee engagement.
- Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report on HSE performance to site management and regional HSE teams.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Safety Officer or in a similar HSE role within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of local safety regulations and international HSE standards (e.g., ISO 45001).
- Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard identification.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills (both French and Swahili/Lingala preferred).
- Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques.
- Ability to develop and deliver effective safety training programs.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional safety certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH).
- Experience in the food and beverage industry.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems.
- First Aid and Fire Safety certifications.
