Job Description

Rainoil Limited is seeking a highly dedicated and experienced Safety Officer – HSE/Industrial to join our dynamic team in Rumuibekwe, Port Harcourt. This critical role is instrumental in ensuring the rigorous application and continuous improvement of our health, safety, and environmental standards across our industrial operations and facilities. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of developing, implementing, and meticulously monitoring HSE programs and procedures, ensuring full compliance with national and international regulations, alongside strict adherence to company policies. You will actively identify potential hazards, conduct thorough risk assessments, and deploy effective control measures to proactively prevent accidents, injuries, and environmental damage. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management systems and procedures in line with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular HSE inspections, audits, and risk assessments of operational areas, equipment, and work processes to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, near misses, and occupational illnesses, determining root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive HSE reports, including incident reports, performance metrics, and compliance status, to management and relevant authorities.
  • Organize and deliver HSE training programs and awareness campaigns for employees and contractors on various safety topics, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Ensure the availability and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across all operations.
  • Monitor environmental performance, including waste management, pollution control, and adherence to environmental protection regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of HSE activities, training, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Liaise with external regulatory bodies, auditors, and consultants on HSE matters.
  • Participate in emergency response planning and drills, ensuring preparedness for potential incidents.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through active engagement with staff and continuous communication.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Safety Officer or in a similar HSE role, preferably in the oil and gas, manufacturing, or logistics sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of Nigerian HSE regulations and relevant international standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
  • Proficiency in conducting risk assessments, hazard identification, and incident investigation techniques.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective HSE training programs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • First Aid and Fire Safety certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent HSE professional certification (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely).
  • Membership in a recognized professional safety body (e.g., ISPON).
  • Experience with HSE management software.
